I agree with John Dewey in his belief that "the school must represent present life-- life as real and vital to the child as that which he carries on in the home, in the neighborhood, or on the playground." (page 244) I believe it is important to bring your students culture into the classroom. You want them to be able to feel comfortable with their learning enviroment. Also students who can find ways to relate to a lesson through culture, race, etc are more likely to take more value out of their education.
