I will be doing my student teaching in the Spring of 2005. However, I haven't really decided on where I should do the student teaching at. I grew up in Wilkes ... so I could go there, but I also have the opportunity to do my student teaching in Hickory ... where my dad lives now. I am pretty sure I will choose Hickory, but what should I keep in mind when deciding upon where I want to student teach?

One thing to think about is that student teaching is like a full time job. So you really don't have any time to work a job to make money. So I would do my student teaching at the place were it would be financially the easiest place on me. If I was in your shoes I would go home and live off of daddy. Plus, he would be therefor emotional support as well.

I haven't did my student teaching, but I have had to make plans on where I am doing it. My decision was based most importantly on the living arrangements. If I am not happy where I am living then I have a hard time being happy all together. I decided to not do my student teaching at home because I would be hassled by my family. Also, one factor several of my friends have considered is that it may be easier to find and get a job where ever you student teach, since you already know the area and people. I really like Hickory, I have several friends that teach in Catawba County and love. Good Luck

Live for free, that way you dont have to worry about bills, and not making money then asking your parents for money. Free is always best.

Which ever place you feel the most comfortable student teaching at is where you should go. Money is important, but this is you first reall teaching experience, it should be in a place where you are comfortable.
