Courtney brought up a good point about....If someone can not pass the Praxis then they have the option to become a habilatative science. In my special education block (we only have one) there were only five special education majors and the rest were habilatative science majors.

One of the girls that I know who can't pass the Praxis has considered doing habilatative science. When she explained it to me it sounded like these will be the teachers who will be working with students w/ special needs. Personally, I believe that people need to have a real calling and desire to teach in this field. I think it takes a very special person to work w/ special needs children (specifically). I know that we all will have these children in our classrooms but to have a classroom full time is different. To feel like you are being pushed into this profession seems like a really bad idea to me. People should choose their career because it interests them and they WANT to do it, not because they couldn't pass a test to do what they really want so this is their next best option...

what do you guys think?

I aggree with your statement. It does take a special type of teacher to work full time with special ed. students. I do not think that college students who do not pass the Praxis should become S. Ed. just for the sake of securing their teaching license. But, then again this is just my opinion.

Just to clarify, they become habilitative science majors not special education majors, but they have the option of teaching in public schools without passing the Praxis or having a license.
