I think that most would agree that ability grouping is a bad idea. What about gender grouping? What about seperating males from females into seperate classes taught by the same teachers in the same schools in an effort to avoid the distraction and posturing?
Gender grouping was experimented with last year at our school and if the test scores are any indicator it appears to have worked. It will continue this year and our principle has said that she is willing to try gender grouping all classes.
What do you guys think? I'll admit that Im for it. If the same teachers teach both classes in the same school it would appear to avoid the usual problems with seperate but equal. My only concern is that the students wont be challenged to cope with the distraction. Being attracted to your co-workers and not letting it get in the way of your job or prompt you to make poor moral choices should be part of adulthood.
