Did anyone happen to see the North Carolina governor's debate about education? If anything, it was a little scary, and I'm concerned about what will happen to our state if either candidate wins. I know everyone has varying political opinions, but I have only one question - How can we, as college students, know so much about educational research when they, the candidates for NC governor, seem to know so little? What does this say about our education system?

Mary:

I just wanted to say that I had a very similar response to the two candidates.

We do have a sort of odd profession. The standards so often are set, as you suggest, by people whose only background in ed is that they, too, went to public school. While that's an interesting starting point, it is so discouraging how current "best practices" get lost in the shuffle. We have to at least implement them at the classroom level; or at least that is what I keep thinking.
