Post subject:  Tracking, good or bad?

At one time I was in favor of tracking and ability grouping for the betterment of the student, now I have decided that the tracking of studnets is more of an advantage for the teacher. The teacher can plan instruction for the group instead of having to plan extension exercises for the advanced students. At HP elementary school the 6th grade is tracked in math and language arts, this creates tracked classes in the other classes as well. This is not fair to students, it is so hard to move from one track to another, and the students never get the same level of activities and learning opportunities as the AG kids do. That does not even begin to mention the way that students feel about themselves if they don't believe that they are as smart as the others.

What are your feelings about tracking?
