| Post subject: | Protecting Interests |
As I was responding to other postings, I started to think about high school. It occured to me that a great deal of students had to hide what they were interested in because it was 'uncool' (e.g. Anime, computer games, etc.). What do you think we can do to make our schools a place that is safe for students to express what they are interested and get together with others that are similarly interested? Did you feel that you could express your likes and dislike at your school? |

hmm... thats a good thought. Its the same problem that Cedric deals with in A hope in the Unseen. At my highschool, being completely honest i didnt feel ok expressing certain interest in things like history or art etc. because that was "uncool". To change that im not real sure what can be done. I thnk maybe as teachers we could make it where subjects like these can be "cool" and make it seem ok for students to enjoy discussing such topics. A big part of it though i think is the students responsiblity to get past petty things like dislikeing somone because of thier interest. |
