What are you ladies doing in your classrooms/schools to inform your children about the BIG ELECTION on Tuesday? I think this election is so important to kids and their parents, due to the emphasis on the war, the economy and job losses, and of course, the NCLB plan that Bush continues to discuss. I saw a really neat section on the Today Show this morning in which an anchorman was discussing the election with a group of kids from around the country, and he explained the electoral college and other things to them in "kid terms." I got a lot of good ideas from this clip! I was just interested to hear what other schools and counties are doing to inform students about this major national event! Any good ideas?

I also saw that segment on the Today Show. I'm not teaching right now, so I don't have any other ideas for you. I do I wish I had taped this morning's program for the future!!

The third grade at my school are conducting an election with the fish we have in the media center. It is really cute. They have put colorful posters in the hall, tv commericals etc.. The teachers will vote based on college electoral votes(# of years teaching) and students will vote on a database created by the tech department. Its really more involved then I explained.
I am really excited I get to take my 18 to vote for the first time this week. Yes he has formed his own opinion.

The election is a hot topic at East Bend school. The whole school (k-8) is going to the "poles" to vote today. We are using a special room, with voting booths, one at a time. K-2 is doing by picture only, but the rest of the school is voting on a sample ballot. I think this is so important and we are teaching our children that voting is important. We have spent some time talking about the election. We have had Virgina Fox and Jim Harrell here to debate and our 7th and 8th grade AIG have had a question forum with our running county commisioners.
