This story still fascinates me. There is an article (if you can't find it, I have copies for tonight's meeting) about Jane Elliot at
www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/ ... usade.html. She talks about how she's done this exercise all over the world, and the many responses she gets.
There was an interesting exercise that I had to do for another class--it's available at teachingtolerance.org>examine your role>test for hidden bias. You can complete it on your computer and it calculates whether you may have hidden biases. I took it, and found some of the results surprising.
