On page 14 of "Other People's Children" Deplit writes, "I still felt that I had failed in the task that was most important to me - teaching black children and teaching them well." Shouldn't the most important task of all educators be to teach ALL students (regardless of race, cultural background, or disability) to the best of our ability?

I agree Elizabeth. I think that she does have valid points for reading instruction, but many of them would apply to all readers that are struggling to learn to read.

I agree. I felt that the Delpit article was racially biased in a way that would not be tolerated if a white person had written the article. That isn't to say that I didn't understand her point. It is just that as a society we tolerate certains veiws more readily than others.
