I wondered about the woman who wrote such a dark, unhappy book
so in the american way, I googled her. Here is the address to her website.

It is interesting that when she talks about reaction to her Kentucky accent that she speaks of losing her accent and becoming something different. I think that really ties into what we have dicussed in class.

Thank you for sharing this website. Being from Kentucky myself, I will be interested to see what she has to say. BMS

I enjoyed visiting the website. I can relate to Barbara because, as a farm girl, I literally grew up "in the middle of an alfalfa field." The field that surrounds my parents' home has been frequently sewn(sp?) in alfalfa. While reading on the website about her accent, I was reminded that one of my college roomates used to tell me that my accent changed when I was on the phone talking to my parents. She said that she always knew when I was talking to my parents or grandparents because my accent was different. Elizabeth

Thanks for sharing the website Paula. I always enjoy learning about the author that is writing the story. It seems to give some insight as to why the book is written.
