I liked this book. I had several different reactions while reading it. I felt sorry for him when he was ridiculed at Ballou for making good grades and for having to go to school where the environment was so potentially dangerous. I was glad for him, because it can be a rare thing, that he had the support and love of his mother. I empathized with him when he got to Brown and was still writing from personal experiences instead of the more collegiate format like was expected. I laughed at his reaction when he discovered the envelope with the condoms and rubber gloves on the RA's door. I wanted to shout at him to get over the color of his skin when some of the other students on his hall were trying to reach out to him and he rejected them. Finally, I celebrated with him when he turned the corner and knew that everything was going to be alright. Cedric is truly a brave and exeptional person for what he was able to accomplish against all the odds he faced.
