In the last chapter the money taboo is portrayed as a crutch for the employers. Taboo being one thing an employer can count on when most people don't reveal what they earn or how they get it. This probably does not change from the highest paid to the lowest paid. Since this is something that happens as a norm there is no one planning to complain about the low wages or challenge low wages. I remember John Wayne in one movie as MR McClintock saying that he would pay a fair wage for a fair days work that no one would be giving anyone anything. I think that somehow we lost the fair wage for a fair days work ethic many years ago.

Brent,

I agree with what you are saying. We have lost what it means to pay someone a decent salary for a hard days work. Not in all cases, but certainly the people that we read about in our book. The question I have is how do we get society to realize how valuable these workers are? Maybe if John Wayne himself came back and led a revolt for the lower working class, society as a whole could move forward. Since that is not possible, what do we do?
