The girls in the story seem to have totally lost their religious beliefs. My question is, "Do you think they will ever be able to put all the verbal and emotional abuse their father inflicted on them behind them?"

Sharon,
The poor girls got their information to establish their religious beliefs from a fanatical father. If they lost their beliefs, it was because they saw how futile religion was in their lives. They saw no reward for following their father's religion and losing their religion was no great loss.

I agree John. His religion appeared to do nothing but cause pain to others. His lack of tolerance and understanding were of course the catalysts here. I sincerely doubt that given the depth of the girls' feelings of betrayal in the religous upbringing that they will ever regain their beliefs.

Sharon,
I personnally think it would be difficult to work thought those types of problems. The thing is that I can not see things from God's Eye, as we discussed in class. God can still do a great work in their lives. Will it happen? I don't know. :?:

When the Price family first moved to the Congo, Leah mentioned several times her wish to spend time with her father - wanting to tag along with him in his trips to the village, working on the ill-fated garden with him. I could never figure out why she would want to be with him when he was always ranting and raving about something or looking for an opportunity to give someone "the verse". I would have liked to know more about their family life before they went to Africa, but we are only given a few glimpses of that life. Sandi Johnson
