We briefly discussed in class how parents are drawn to one child or the other and often the younger. I think as parents we are often drawn to the weaker. The one that needs the most help, and the stronger child is often left to work, play, or associate things on their own. This may not be intentional but sometimes become expected.

I think it depends on the personality of the parent. A very competitive parent will more likely put the effort into the smarter, stronger child in order to hone the competitive edge, while a more compassionate parent may spend more time with the weaker child, trying to bring him up to the level of the stronger sibling.
And, of course our parnting tendencies will always come along into the classroom.
