As teachers we will all have students in our classes that will be in the special education program whether it be for dyslexia, autism, or anything else. I am curious to what others think about how to approach teaching students in special education as I have never had very much experience with it.

Sorry I forgot to log in. This was my post:
This is a hard thing that we are going to have to deal with when we are teachers. I'm not quite sure how I am going to handle it but I think working closely with special education teachers is going to be a big help. Getting ideas and helpful hints from someone with all that experience will go a long way.

Special Education students are definitely going to need a little extra attention from us as teachers. The main thing we need to do though, is not make them feel as if they don't belong in our classroom!!! We need to make them feel as comfortable as possible, but not cater to them too much because that also singles them out. When they enter our classroom, they should be treated just like any other student.

Like Sarah said, special education student's are definetely going to need extra attention. I think that one way to aid these student's is to speak with the special education teacher that is within our school or someone that you may know. I think that, that individual can give us advice on how to teach special needs children according to their different needs.
