Tonight I attended a PTMA meeting and the topic was discussing how to teach LEP and ESL students within our classrooms. The speaker informed us that we need to provide numerous examples, reduce their workload, and assist them in any way that will help them gain the social and academic language needed to survive in our school systems. I feel that I learned a lot from attending the meeting, but I am now very nervous about handling this issue in the future. I feel that we are not being prepared for teaching ESL students or even the mainstreamed Special Ed students so far in my classes. What if you had an ESL student and a Special ED student, both in your classroom....honestly, i think i would be spreading myself very thin in making sure all students are being educated fairly. What do you guys think about this??
