As future educators, it important I believe to practice what you preach and believe in your pedadgogy. Im curious to know what is one thing you plan on doing in your classroom to battle discrimination from just being a month in the year or a segerated holiday? [/i]

I am going to be a high school social studies teacher. Hopefully that means I will get to teach history(and NOT economics/ civics). I think that with teaching history it is important to look closely at culture, as an attempt to really understand what went on in the past. To me, teaching about different cutures means teaching respect and understanding. I hope to teach from a world perspective and not just an American, white perspective. I will probrably emphasize things like black history month, but I will also include black history in my everyday teaching. I will not however celebrate Columbus Day. I might choose this day to teach about him, but not celebrate.
