Post subject:  SAT

There has been a large debate surrounding the use of SATs as a standard measurement tool. Many people use SAT scores to measure a student's predicted success. However, there are many highly intellegent people who do not do well on the SATs. And yet we continue to depend on this test. SATs are not a true representation of whether someone has common sense, which can prove to be more beneficial at times than being book smart alone.

Why do we, as a society, put so much emphasis on whether a person is "book smart" instead of whether they have common sense? In many every day situations, common sense is needed more than any lessons learned in the classroom. Shouldn't we value more a healthy balance between having a high aptitude and also being able to use common sense at all times. What are your thoughts on this subject?
