The other day I was talking with a friend of mine that is a 3rd grade teacher. She has been teaching for about six years now. We talked about beginning teachers and how many first year teachers have a tough year. One of the things that we talked about was the difference between some first year teachers. Some of us are going to go into the classroom and we will try to be friends with the students and basically we will become push overs, while others may go in a be complete hard-asses and all of the students wil hate us.We will act like we have a chip on our shoulder. I personally don't want to be either of those types of teachers, but I do know that I have to be firm and stand my ground. I'm not really worried about the students hating me as long as they are learning what they are suppose to be learning. I don't plan on being mean to students or difficult, I just expect my class to have some discipline so that we can meet certain objectives that are placed on the class. I was wondering what type of first year teacher some of you guys think you will be? Hopefully none of us will be lazy teachers like we had discussed in one of our previous classes. Hopefully all of us will have farily smooth first years.
