I thought that everyone might like to see the most current North Carolina stats. Every year North Carolina puts out the North Carolina Child Health Report Card. The Current stats were put out in the last month the data is based on 2003 data because it takes so long to compile and investigate all of the data and then this date is showed in comparison to 1999. This "report card is put out by The North Carolina Institute of medicine and North Carolina Child Advocacy Institute. So here we go:
2003 / 1999

% of infant deaths per 100 live births
All 8.2% / 9.3%

Other Races 14.0% / 16.3%
# of newly reported communicable diseases

Thanks for the information. One good thing is that the numbers, while still higher than we want, seem to be going down. With more public awareness maybe we can get the numbers to go even lower when they publish the next report card.
