I am sure all of you have heard the commercials or seen the advertisments to put children to sleep on their backs to prevent SIDS. I can not help to think that this is about the same time that infant mortality rates started to decrease. A few years later we started to hear about smoking and its effects during pregnancy and the effects to children through second ahnd smoke. Over the past 2 years there has been a big push to make sure that car seats are installed properly and that you are using the appropriate seat. Year before last I assisted in a bike rally/awareness through Mountain View Pediatriacs and Burke County Health Department where we had a day of fun biking games, races, and refreshments. We fitted kids with free helments and taught the importance of always wearing your helment. We even gave away a cool bike. I think that through these type of community service activities we can make a difference in the mortality rate.

I agree with you. If you get the message out on a large scale then you will have large scale results. Also, it takes time and individuals who will give their time to save others lives.

It takes years to change to way people put their children to sleep. No matter which way you choose, there will be someone around who does it differently and will take you to bat about it. (Most families have more grandparents in them than infant sleep specialists!) Patience grasshopper.
