Is there really any difference between the racism born in the 1960s and today? In alot of ways things have gotten better - the civil rights movment spurned on by such tragedies benefited not only black americans but also women. I don't forsee an end to racism anytime soon because people will always try to group themselves some how. I do think that today social class and how much money you have matters more than the color of your skin. The major factor in the future will not be black, brown, or white but where you live, what kind of car you drive, and how much money you have in the bank.

I believe that we have progressed somewhat in race relations since the 1960's, but there will always be prejudice of some sort. Today people are less outspoken about their prejudice. Many tactics are underhanded and hard define instead of public beatings, separate restraunts, etc.

I agree that race relations have improved but there will always be racism. Because the people who are racist will instill their beliefs in their kids, relatives, and friends then they will and so on. Racism is passed along like a "legacy" and will continue to be in our society. We as teachers will hopefully change some viewpoints about it.

I don't think that there has necessarily been a progression in this matter but mearly a more widespread acceptance. Racism is still around, but our society as a whole is doing a lot better at concealing it. Like the kid in the prep school video said, "its just the thing to do".

I agree that most racism will disappear in the future. But, there will always be racism. Whenever people are different, they will be picked on or put down for it by someone.

I too think racism will always exist. While race may have become a lesser defining feature, we have now found other ways to segregate ourselves from those "other people" who we don't want to be around.

I agree Charity. In the future social class will matter more than race. Today that is also prevalent. There are certainly high class status individuals who are also from minority races. I also agree with those who say racism still exists - maybe not as much as in the 1960s (think of all the interracial marriages today) - but racism is covered up in certain areas probably more so today than in the 60s.

I agree, I don't think racism is going to disappear anytime soon. I think maybe one day it may happen, but it's hard to tell. Racism is so strong in today's society, it is just going to take time.
