I am sorry to admit that I am a taker at this stage of my life. I used to be so much more aware of how I affected the environment, but with my very busy schedule and life, I have become a taker. One thing about this book is that it helps you see what you are doing and that changing small things could end up causing a big difference in the environment.

I have to admit that I am a taker. Carrie it is like you said, I am too busy to do the things that I know I should do. I am afraid it is going to take a really bad situation to wake us up and cause us to change. A situation that we can not ignore or pretend is not there.

I also admit that I am a taker. I do what I can when I am at home, however, up here in Boone, I am constantly going and hardly have any spare time at all.

I've already admitted that I am a taker. I'm wondering though, how much time and effort would it require of me to move away from my taker status and toward leaver status. Is it really so much work for me to recycle as much as possible, not waste any food, conserve fuel, electricity and water, etc?
I also worry about the message we're sending the kids in our school when we use styrofoam plates when we're short a cafeteria worker instead of limiting the lunch choices so that someone would have the time to wash dishes.

I feel that in much of my daily life, I am a leaver. However, due to the fact that I don't live a totally sustainable lifestyle I am probably a taker. The fact that I now own a car when I used to walk or ride my bike everywhere makes me a taker in itself. I pick up trash on the street and on the trail and recycle what the town will allow me to, but I am ashamed to admit that I don't go the extra mile to take my other recyclables to the appropriate centers. Now that you mention it, I'm feeling more and more like a taker all the time. :(

I don't believe it is entirely possible in today's society to become a leaver. I think we all possess traits that qualify us as takers. I feel to some extent that is expected of us. Not to say this is right, or that we are doing so appropriately, but we do need to reflect upon our taker status, and do what we can to become more modeled leavers, as we are influencing our youth through example.

I am a taker regretfully. I try to think of others, but with my busy schedule that is difficult sometimes. I hope to change that in the future!
