There is a story on the FoxNews website today about a 2 1/2 year old gorilla in the Congo who has started using "tools" to crack open coconuts to extract oil. The story says that the scientists studying this young gorilla do not think she is using her new technique as a result of the time she has spent around humans. Apparently, she is using stones as a hammer and anvil tool, which is pretty complex. What will she do next?

Animals have been using "tools" for a very long time. This is not a new story. We learned many helpful hints from animals.

I think it is pretty interesting to watch animals because like Carrie said, they have been using tools for a long time. Elephants also use tools to help them dig in the dirt for water. We are just fascinated with the primates because they remind us so much of ourselves. Gorillas have been using "tools" in the wild for a long time and they have a sophisticated form of communication. I have always enjoyed watching and reading about animals because they always reflect something of ourselves.
