Savage Inequalities is very clear & present evidence that we are not the great country of equality, freedom, and opporitunity upon which we profess. I was too touched by the stories that are were discussed in St. Louis and other cities in the United States, but what it makes me think of is that the poor in this country need people to speak up for them. Many poor, don't cry for help, because they feel no one will hear them nor will they listen. I believe it to be our duties as educators to be the voices for our underprivledged children, parents, and communities to help them gain what they need to be educated, contributing members of our society. There is no way we can write-off the injustices in our society, but we can take up the charge to irradicate as many of them by speaking out against injustices.
