I just finished reading an article "American Apartheid" which was an interview with Jonathan Kozol. It tied into our discussions in class in that he talks about the fact that in 2005 black students are more segregated in public schools than at any time since 1968. Wow! I like the comment he makes in regards to the fact that many times we keep schools integrated and state that it will be better if we put more money there. He states how this is an effort to show that segregated schooling works. What are you thoughts on this? He also makes a strong point that we all keep bringing up in class. He is asked what educators should do to make schools better for low-income minority students. His comment is that he "expects educators to rise up to the situation and raise hell." (Pardon for the language, that's his exact words.) He wants to see teachers develop a stronger political voice and to serve as witnesses to the injustices that we are aware of better than anyone else. As future administrators, we will now have that opportunity.

We will have to stay strong to our beliefs to make this happen or we may just become another of the norm. We can't afford to keep doing the same thing and just give it another name.
