I was struck by one of the comments made by one of the children in the Poisonwood Bible, when she talked about how she wished the people back home could see the kind faces and the normal things that happened in the village in Africa, in order to help the people back home in Georgia realize that people are very much the same everywhere. This was a poignant observation from a child, one which many adults forget. Often, we focus on the differences rather than similarities.

Yes, the child said that everyone back home said that the people in Africa had bones in their hair and were salvages. She wanted to get back home and educate her people on these great people in Africa who kept her family from starving. They were able to see the world in different eyes after this experience. Well, all but Rachael.
