I do think it is sad in the Poisonwood Bible to see the childhoods of the young girls and boys gone so quickly. Leah kept saying in the book she didn't have anyone to play with because all the girls her age were having babies and married, so they had to work to keep the house up. I think that was very hard for the girls to accept once they got to Africa. In another part a girl had to stop school because she was to start working as a prostitute with her mother, and she was only ten. That just breaks my heart to think of how innocent these little children are, and then how they must grow up so quickly.

I agree that it is sad that such young children have to grow up so fast. The girls especially had to grow up faster than the boys. I also felt sorry for the Price girls who were trapped in their father's mission. They too lost some of their childhood joys.

When I read that section I immediately thought about the child prostitution problems in Asia. As adults, our job is to protect children at all cost. Some children are faced with trying to overcome obstacles that we as adults cannot begin to understand. As unfortunate as this is, it is as much of a reality as living and dying.
