As I was reading I wondered why anyone would want to go and put their lives in jeopardy the way the family did in order to spread religion. I don't think I would have been able to do that, especially not with small kids. I think it takes a special person to do something like this. I think I may do it on an individual basis and do it through visits, but to move my whole family there-I just don't think I could have done it.

It is interesting how willing Nathan was to boldly go to a world he considered pagan to share the gospel he himself lived only compromisingly. Many people I think use religion as a scapegoat for acting out their own fantasies of enlightenment.

I agree Molly. It seems like too much to put your family through. As I was reading parts of this book reminded me of the war in Iraq and how their are Americans over there. Some of the Congo people didn't care to hear about Nathan's Jesus. Some of the people in Iraq also don't want to hear about our government and resent us for being there.

After tonight's discussion, I think that Rev. Price was not running to help anyone. I think he was running away from something and used the mission work to get further away from the world where he had to be more accountable for his actions.
