I just finished reading the novel A Hope in the Unseen. We we were talking tonight about how students get really defensive about issues like class and race and it reminded me of Cedric. Cedric refused to let people be "dreambusters" in his life. He went to Brown and even though people told him he wouldn't make it at an Ivy League school. Cedric had to deal with racial and class issues throughout his life. He slowly opened himself up to the white people around them and was able to talk to them about questions he would have never thought he would be able to open up about.
