The past book we read in class was a great read. An inner city student's perspective on life was new to me. Cedric is proof that hard work can be a success no matter how many walls are in your way. We hear alot about the failures of the black youth in our country and how this is directly related to social class or family atmosphere. It seems that society expects this failure and is fine with it, and when there is a student who excells alot of us are surprised. Yes, there are barriers in place for our black youth to overcome, but there are also numerous opportunities out there. Basically, no matter who you are, with hard work and determination one can excell in anything, there are no excuses!

I totally agree, I really enjoyed reading this book. Cedric represented a small portion of people, much less students who kept pushing dispite all the hardships he encountered. This book gives hope to a teacher knowing that even if one student is impacted to push harder then it's worth teaching.
