Okay girls, I know that everyone could tell how outraged and confused I was on Thursday night. I get so upset when I think about people being treated the way we discussed.

So, this led me to wonder: Is our country still racist? OR Are people just "getting around" the system? OR Are people acting politically correct while still thinking racist thoughts?

Have things really changed? I am interested to see what you think.

Jamie,
This came to my mind as well. Our country is in a racial debate currently with the illegal immigration controversy. I wonder how all of this will pan out and what reprecussions will will see in the future?

I think that racism is still a problem today. I know especially in our area, we have parents who are racist and thus, the children are. It is part of our jobs to help children think differently.

Great questions. Look at the book we're reading now...A Hard Fight...the story always seems to be about power and control. And if the dominated rise up, those seeking to reestablish control find other means. I now see where the mentality for lynchings was born. Is it getting any better? After reading Kozol, Nickel and Dimed, and Ishmael, I wonder... :(
