This article was not suprising to me. Last semester, I tutored sixth graders in math. Many of them did not know their multipulcation tables either. This saddens me. I think too many children are falling through the cracks. How can a student make it all the way to high school without learning this third grade skill? How is it possible that not one teacher along the way discovered this? I know that teachers have a huge responsibilty to reach every student and this is a difficult task, but there has to be a solution to stop kids from getting passed along.
