I was just wondering what your experience with the SAT was. I actually went to school in a district that got into a lot of trouble for their involvement with students taking the SAT. The county was so worried about having a high average score that they got really pushy with the students. One high school actually got busted for PAYING students not to take the SAT because they assumed they wouldn't do well, and throwing parties for students who did well or students who listened to orders and didn't take the test. I didn't really notice anything crazy going on at my school, though I do know some people who were discouraged from taking the test. I thought the school was just trying to save them money since they were going to community colleges and the test wasn't required. After the scandal came to light, the punishment was very minimal.

I agree with Amy. I'm pretty sure my high school encouraged some students not to take the SAT. Nothing to the extreme such as paying them and having parties for the students who did well. But every year I was in high school I could look at the Juniors and Seniors and know which ones the guidance counselor had told not to go take the test. Most of them didn't. My school had the top scores in the county and was in the top SAT scores in the state, (top 50 somewhere), my Junior and Senior year, because of that.

Wow! I have never heard of such a thing. In my school I feel like most people were encouraged to take the test. Our school was the county school that always held the testing days and I just know that they ran out of classroom space for all the people, every test date. I hated the test but took it three times, as did most of my friends and peers. We were encouraged to take it as much as possible to get the highest score as possible. I did not really know anyone in my school who didnt' take the test.

Did you get increasingly better scores? I only took it twice, and I did better the first time.

It was weird.I did better on English the first time and worse on it the second.I did better on math the second time.It just goes to show how inaccurate the test is that my scores would flip flop like they did.

I actually did get increasingly better scores. I think it is becuase i grew more accustom the test taking area, felt more comfortable overall, and half way knew what to expect on the test. I am very grateful that my family had the money to put me through the test three times.

I heard that there's a new policy where if you score high enough on the SAT you're exempt from the Praxis I. It would have been nice if they would have made this decision last year so all of us could have saved hundreds of dollars. Thanks guys.

At my high school, we were all encouraged to take the SAT if we planned on attending college. I had not ever heard of any SAT scandals until recently. I think it's sad that faculty and administrators will try to manipulate students regarding the SAT. For one, every student should be allowed and encouraged to take the test and no one should be discouraged from taking if it's what they really want to do. Sometimes schools get so rapped up in their test scores that the students are truly the ones who are punished.
