In the article "Still Separate, Still Unequal", it states that Bush went to Washington to "challenge the soft bigotry of low expectations...it's working. It's making a difference." How can a man who says he is a Christain tell a lie such as this to the people of his country? If the President of the United States sees what is going on in these cities and does not do anything about it, then who will? What will happen to our nation? Will we end up with complete segregation again in the future?

Tracie - do you remember discussing in History last semester(among groans and pain), that the grassroots common people groups are the ones that really make the changes? President Bush, like any other President, is trying to say what he needs to say to get elected and offend the least amount of voting people groups. The inner city people due to lack of "power" are not a big voting contingency. It would take someone from the inner city itself to stand up and grab other people and say "come on, let's not stand for this - let's vote - let's demand changes in the schools." Some one like that would have to be educated....it is a vicious cycle. Who could we contact about it? Our representatives don't really have power over their areas do they? Maybe when we have elections, we should ALL be more involved, and use wisdom and discernment to choose the best candidates. How can we get great candidates and not be stuck with the lesser of 2 evils? Maybe some sports or Hollywood star should go to those areas and try to get people to vote. What do you think? :?:
