This is reading made me think about what it would really be like to be an outsider in the classroom. I've always heard teachers complaining about having to change their plans to include different races or cultures but I have not really been involved from the other side. This quote about about how teachers effect the lives of their students really stood out to me
"What you say and what you do in the classroom, what you teach and how you teach it, and what you don't say and don't teach will have a significant effect on the potential success or failure of my child." - pg. 194
I think as future educators sometimes it's hard to stay focused on what is truly important and remember that we will touch every child's life who walks through the door, whether it is positive or negative.
Anyone else have thoughts on this article?

i completely agree, heather. sometimes i don't think we realize how influential we will be as teachers. that quote sums up our affect on people's lives perfectly. we say a lot, even in the things we don't say. that's why i think it's so important to study and support each religion, each culture, and each ethnicity... i remember walking out of class on tuesday - after that horrid movie - and was talking to dr. turner, and she said - "we don't have class on iuesday because it's Ramadan - i'm trying to set a good example, since we get off for christmas." or.. something along those lines... and it made me think about how important it is - even if for only 5 minutes - to talk about significant days in different religions... even if you don't practice it yourself.
