I was reading an article online about African Americans and AP courses. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 992_pf.htm The article discusses how African Americans in Montgomery County are more likely to take AP courses than Whites. The article states "Five years ago, barely one-third of African Americans participated in such classes, despite the county's reputation as a national leader in college prep. Now, a black student in Montgomery is more likely to take an AP test than a white student elsewhere in the nation." It also says "The county's achievement is striking because the national surge in Advanced Placement testing has largely left black students behind." I think that this is a great step towards equality between Whites and African Americans. It shows our racist society that just because you are a certain color doesnt mean that you are not as smart or cant succeed. I think that this is a great study to encourage African Americans to step up What do you guys think? |
