:?: I just printed a copy of the mid-term. Is anyone interested in staying after class tonight to start on it?

I would love to Regina. I don't have Internet at home, so any posting that I do for class I take care of at school. If we get bad weather, I may not have another opportunity to do a study group session through the program board. Count me in.

Regina and Kim,
I'm glad some of us were able to meet after class last night to talk about some of the questions on the mid-term. I wish we would have had another chance to meet tonight, but I'm glad Dr. Turner decided not to chance coming down the mountain.

Hey, Cindy. Ditto on both. I'm not confident about the questions/answers but at least we were able to bounce some ideas off each other.

I don't have a home computer and if the weather's bad I won't be on-line again until school re-opens. So, if you don't hear from me know that I'm at home alone toiling away on the mid-term and trying to apply what we've covered in class and what we discussed last night  .

Good Luck!!

Hey guys: Missed the posting and went to school. Worked out alright. Met my daughter at BabiesRUs and registered her for upcoming twins event!!! But, about the mid-term...It's not looking too bad. Phew!! Don't have the focus to have anything too mentally straining. This is just right. Thank you Gayle. Hope I can do it justice...for my sake :D One question. Number 7 asks "is the SAT I an apptitude..." Do you think it's a typo or does Gayle mean the first SAT designed. I don't think the first test was diffferent in testing a predetermined achievement "norm" than any other test. That is why the question??? Why would she be so specific. Am I missing something? That's all for now. Of course, I don't have the book at home to reference. Bye

Good question, Jean.

I was confused before, but even more so after I looked up the definitions of aptitude and achievement.

Webster's defines aptitude as 'natural talent; ability to learn quickly and easily' and achievement as 'the act of attaining or carrying out successfully".

So, my thoughts are that the SAT was designed to provide a mechanism for upward mobility based on natural talent, not social class or heritage. That would be aptitude, right?

But, in my notes I wrote that the test was supposed to be a predictor of 1st semester grades in Ivy League schools. Which would be achievement, right? What do you think???

And, why might the answer to #7 matter - hummmm :? I'm not sure.
