Being an Atlanta Braves fan, I have read numerous stories about players and coaches who are involved in personal / local foundations and organizations that help underpriviledged children in Atlanta and surrounding areas.
St. Louis, Chicago and New York City have many professional sports teams composed of wealthy, popular athletes. I wonder how many of these athletes are involved with the underpriviledged in these neighborhoods. I think these popular athletes would have more influence to initiate improvements, than local and state politicans.

Cindy,
I agree totally with you. The impact that sports figures have in a city or area is enormous. If these athletes could let the plight of these kids be known to the "big" businesses that endorse them, and funnel some of their own money as well as the corporation's money into these neighborhoods, things still wouldn't be perfect, but there would be many more children who would stand a chance.
