Let me get this right. On pg. 182 is it saying that Adam ate the apple? I thought it was Eve. :?: :?: :?: :?:

Kristi, you are right, it was Eve who ate the apple. I was confused at that point too. I kept expecting Ishmael to interject Eve's name in the picture at some point, but he never did. I wondered why? to that. Surely the author had researched or even knew the Biblical story about Adam and Eve. I also thought that perhaps leaving Eve out made a sexist point being that women weren't viewed as a person or at least not equal in Ishmael's understanding of that time era. I'm curious to find out in class tomorrow.

... look on page 179 and there is a discussion about what the word eve means.... it means, says ishmael, life not woman...the whole thin little chapter talks about why it means life and not woman... it says ultimately the person who offered adam the temptation to eat the apple was really saying live life without limits... as a taker people think there is always more... the supply of food, land, water, gasoline, trees, etc. is limitless.... so the person who offered adam that fruit is not woman per say , or eve, but a representative of the choice to live as a taker.......destroy the rain forest for land, exploit arctic oil even if it ruins a pristine environment which can never be replaced, turn the american west into a hillside of chopped down trees and lost mine shafts etc......have 15 kids , don't worry about the population explosion......
