I found it interesting when Kozol described the wonderful teacher who was doing an amazing job despite of the environment and circumstances she was teaching in. Kozol made the comment that we often see this kind of person in documentaries and articles on poor urban schools even though those teachers are not the norm in the schools. I have to agree that is so true. Most of what I've seen or read on underfunded urban schools depict this type of teacher. It leads people to believe that most of these children are receiving a quality education despite the circumstances.
I hope this comment made sense. My two year old has been hanging on my neck the whole time. If not, maybe I'll do better next time.

Kelly,
I think that teachers really do what they think is right and for the betterment of their students. Unfortunately, there are those people in all of society that will always either pass the buck, or get away with whatever they can. I think the teachers in this book deserve wings for they are surely angels!

Boy I enjoyed your comments. I truely believe that a great teacher can
be effective in any given classroom. A loving and child oriented person
is needed in all learning environments!I think the money and technological advancements are certainly helpful but the loving and
caring person that the children see each day can never be replaced.
