I really had a tough time getting into The Big Test. It seemed so impersonal after reading Savage Inequalities. I felt like Savage was much more up close and personal as to strike an emotional chord, and it really did. In The Big Test, the trend toward standardized testing was explained historically but I would have liked to have read about the impact that it had on individuals. For example, I would like to have read comments from some of the men who weren't deferred from the draft because their IQ wasn't quite high enough. It is ridiculous that someone's worth or future achievement could be judged solely on intelligence. What about ambition, morals, common sense?
