Post subject: | Teach for America...or other things... |
I have been wondering lately what I will end up doing after I graduate and I know that I do not really want to go straight into teaching in North Carolina. And since I am not a Teaching Fellow I can do that. I really like programs like the Peace Corps and especially Teach for America. Yet I have heard it is really hard to get teach for america so I have been searching for alternatives. I have found it interesting that in fact most Teaching Fellows programs for recent college graduates, are not for Teaching Education Majors. They do not allow you to have a teaching certificate to enter their program. Their theory is that you will just go to the inner-city school districts and apply to work there. I think that in theory is a good idea. But I am turned off by those programs because I feel that if I am going to jump that much out of my comfort zone and go work in an inner-city school I am going to need some support from someone or some organization. I know that one way I can help bridge the education gap is to take my skills and move to the inner city, but I do not think I will unless I have that support. I was wondering what your thoughts might be ok this and if you are also thinking about programs such as these for post-graduation? |
