Recently we have been discussing sexuality and I came across this interesting little semi-article in Mother Jones, entitled the "Gay Marriage Stimulus Package." Basically, it is an attempt to make gay marriage appealing fiscally in hopes that perhaps it can someday be law. Here are a few interesting excerpts:
"Same-sex couples marry and move into a higher tax bracket, boosting federal taxes between $400-700 Million."
"Newly formed gay households move up in income and are cut from programs such as Medicaid, resulting in savings of: $50-200 Million."
"If half the same-sex couples now living together get married and spend a quarter of what straight couples do, it results in a wedding-industry boon of : $2 Billiion!"
Now, how could GW resist a couple more billion to fund that abomination of a war. Just thought you guys would find this interesting.
Do you think approaching it from a financial angle rather than a cultural one would more successful?
