Most high schools require that students take at least 2 years of a foreign language. I think that this is a great idea and wish that all schools would take part in this, especially with the higher number of languages being spoken in America these days.

I totally agree with matt -- knowing a foreign language can create so many opportunities for students -- My high school required at least two years. -- I took 4 years of Spanish just because I felt like it would benefit me later on in life. --- it is important to know at least some bits of a foreign language because of the growing diversity in the US.
