Post subject:  Issues with Education

Kind of going of Nick's post about Clinton on campus, I was wondering if anyone felt negative towards governments ideas on education. I'm not sure of the origin of my feelings but I feel like education is put on the back-burner. I feel like sometimes they are commenting on education just so the public thinks they have been concerned with the issues.

The government has done a really great job of putting issues out there that prey on people's emotions, but in reality have very little substance. This is a tactic to divert the public's attention away from those issues on which the government is subpar, like education. NCLB was a pre-9/11 piece of legislation and was the furthest reaching educational reform ever. Now, since then, there have been many problems that have arisen, and the vast majority of teachers feel like the program frankly kind of sucks. Has the government listened to those voices and enacted reforms to NCLB? Well not on a very big scale. When would they have time? We have a war going on, gas is over 100.00 a barrel, and to top it off, we have (gasp!) gay people who want to get married. See what I mean?

I totally agree with what both of you have to say. The term that I like to use to describe this tactic is "political posturing." I love what Bill Clinton had to say about education, that Hillary would end NCLB, but until I see it actually happen I wont believe it.
