Post subject:  Teaching and pay

Education is considered by Americans to be the single most important long-term issue our country faces. This may be true, however, what is in it for the teachers? Don't get me wrong, I am in teaching to change and make a difference lives of young people. But I definitely feel that teachers are greatly underpaid for the amount of time and effort in which we put into our profession. I know several of my friends started off as education majors and changed due to the amount of work. It wasn't the work that made drop from education, it was the pay. One of my friends even made the comment "if I am going to put this much time into school, then I want to be making the big bucks." I jsut wanted to see what some others thought about this topic.

I have always felt that I got into teaching not just because I wanted to change someone else's life, but I wanted to change my own. I felt that by working with all these great colleagues and also being taught by my students was one of the best things about this career. But I understand you, Nick. There should be the action of people telling us (teachers) that our job is important. That's one thing that I want to get involved in and fight for during my time as a teacher.
