There were recent demonstrations on campus in support of the right to carry a concealed weapon on campus with a legal permit. Demonstrators wore empty handgun holsters to show their support, where do you stand on the issue and was the demonstration appropriate?

Nooo way. Personally, having people being able to carry concealed weapons around campus scares the crap out of me.

Alot, and I mean ALOT, of the arguments against concealed carry anywhere is tremendously flawed. The background checks, training, and registration that you have to go through to get your concealed carry permit is astonding. They have your fingerprints, your guns, and your life on file when you get a conceal carry permit. They can't carry when they are in a location that sells alcohol. They HAVE to tell any police officer they cross that they are carrying. You will be hard-pressed to find a person who is guilty of a crime who has a concealed carry permit.

I don't see why a college campus should be the exception to the rule. It is a public place just like walking down king street. I don't need a gun to feel safe, but everyone on campus who I have met who has a conceal carry permit I would trust to have one.

I'm for it. Like Jeff was saying, you have to go through a lot to get a concealed weapon permit, I mean a lot. More than half those people that do receive a permit don't have any kind of criminal record, not even traffic tickets. I'm not a gun person but I like to defend my rights.

I think the idea of someone carrying a concealed weapon on campus is scary. I would not like this it to me just opens up a opportunity for something to happen.

I agree with Lauren and Emily. I wouldn't care if people have to go through a three-year training school in order to get a concealed carry permit- I don't want people walking around campus with guns. Period. I understand the arguments for why people would want to have them (for example, as self-defense if there ever really was a gunman on campus)- but guns are just too dangerous and gun injuries due to accidents are much more common than gun injuries inflicted in self-defense. I would not want a gun in my home and I don't want guns on my college campus either.

If people carrying guns around you is scary, consider that our current policies restricting concealed weapons on campus means that only people who are not certified by the government (concealed weapon permit) are carrying guns on campus. Also, people are allowed to carry a weapon anywhere else in public and you would probably never know whether the person next to you had a concealed weapon or not.

I do not like the idea of people walking around campus with guns at all. I understand that you have to go through a lot to carry a concealed weapon and the police have a lot of your information, but that would make me feel less safe walking around campus because I would know there are people walking around with guns. I do not know why you would need a gun with you on campus anyways.

Personally it is not the fact of people having guns, but it is the fact of knowing that they have the gun. I feel that it would make me a little uncomfortable knowing that the person beside me or behind me could possibly have a gun on them. I feel that if this would pass i would think more about people with guns than actually listening to the teacher. Just wondering, Does this person beside me have a gun on them?
