What are some things that you will take away from this class and put into practice when you become a teacher?

I will definitely place emphasis on making personal connections with my students. It's really important that I get to know them as people and understand their personal situations. This isn't to say that I'm going to lower my expectations for students with really sad homelives, but being aware enables me to help them as best I can.

More than just learning some facts that will help me in the future, I think the real benefit of this class is learning how to deal with tricky situations (or at least thinking about some ways you COULD deal with those situations). After taking this class I feel like I'll be more prepared to deal with controversial or scary issues in the classroom. The class discussion is really what I learned the most from- especially when people spoke up who already had classroom experiences to share: like Ben, Tracy, and Erin.. and Dr. Turner, of course.

Personally i feel like after this class i will a little more opened minded to certain things. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to everyones discussions in class, even though i didn't participate with many of them. I would much rather write on the forums than speak out loud in class. I feel that this was an awesome way for everyone to interact with each other, especially if they felt uncomfortable to speak out loud in class. But i hope that i can carry a few things that i am learned in this class with me into my future teaching experiences. I will be student teaching in the FALL...YAY!!
